Equality Diversity and Rights Free Essays
As a health and social care professional it is part of your role to understand the bases of discrimination and to make sure you donââ¬â¢t discriminate a individual in any sort of way as it can have a negative effect on the individual leading to further problems. Culture A personââ¬â¢s culture is very important to them and indentifies them who they are. It is important to respect everyoneââ¬â¢s culture regardless when they come from, everyone should be treated as an individuals and treated fairly. We will write a custom essay sample on Equality Diversity and Rights or any similar topic only for you Order Now In a health and social care setting it is important at all times to respect an individualââ¬â¢s culture and not to discriminate against them. Disability As a professional you will be working with many people who are different various types of disability, under no circumstances should a disabled person be discriminated against just because of their disability or seen different from everyone else. Many people donââ¬â¢t think about the individual but see the disability first and see them different from the rest which can lead to bullying. Social class Our social class is based on where we live. The higher the class, the better the place is. This can lead to people being discriminated against due to people who donââ¬â¢t have a lot of money and canââ¬â¢t afford some things. Age Age discrimination happens when someone is restricted to do certain things because of their age. In health and social no individuals should be discriminated against because of their age. Age shouldnââ¬â¢t be a problem to anyone; they are still entitled to everything just as everyone else is. An example of this will be an elderly needing an operation but the surgeons saying they canââ¬â¢t undergo the surgery due to their age; this is discriminating against their age and putting them at risk as the surgery may be essential and can maybe save their life. Gender A person may be turned away or discriminated due to their gender. An example may be a male doctor giving better treatment to another male. This is discrimination and everyone should be treated fairly and not be discriminated because of their gender. Sexuality A person can be discriminated due to their sexual orientation. Sexual orientation can refer to a person who is attracted to the same sex. Some people think itââ¬â¢s wrong to be attracted to the same sex so they may start to bully the person or make them feel left out or different from the others. Health status Sometimes decisions have to be made about an individual medical treatment, bearing in mind the cost of the treatment and an individualââ¬â¢s life expectancy. Family status This can lead to a variety of discriminations against gay/lesbian parents, single parents, and parents with different races. An example of this would be a child getting bullied at school due to the fact his dad is gay and is attracted to the same sex. This can have a negative effect on a person and may feel that they are different from the rest. Cognitive Ability Cognitive ability is the way individual processes information in their brain can be the cause of discrimination particularly for those with learning difficulties. Health and social care staff may find them hard and challenging to work with and may apply labels to them. How to cite Equality Diversity and Rights, Papers

A Place Just for Me Essay Example For Students
A Place Just for Me Essay A place that is special to me, as clichà © as it sounds, would have to be my room. All throughout my life my family and I have moved from house to house pretty consistently. Growing up I never thought of any place we would visit or where we lived as a special place to me because I knew within a year or two we would be living somewhere new. Packing up your whole life into brown cardboard moving boxes, getting into a moving truck that would always smell of cigarettes and sweat and going into a strange new house was fun for the first few moves; it felt like an adventure at first but year after year of the same routine it just started feeling normal to me. I used to think it was strange that my friends had never moved from their first house while I was going on to another house but as I grew up, I realized that it was strange to move as often as my family did. In total my family and I have moved from strange house to stranger house 12 times in my 19 years. Although I have always lived in Arizona but that is 12 new houses, 12 years of being the new kid at a different school, 12 years of unpacking just to repack 11 months later, and starting the cycle all over again. I could never keep track of the all cities we lived in, or the number of schools I bounced around and back to but I could always remember how my room was set up in every single house. I did not have a choice as to which new city we lived in or moved back to, or what new school I was blindly tossed into but I did have choice as to how my room could look. That was always my favorite part of moving, I knew no matter what I would be able to organize and decorate my room the way I wanted it to be. I used to think moving was kind of stressful to me because my family usually procrastinated until the day or two days before so my family would rush packing. We would go without sleeping for that day or those two days just packing everything and doing late night moving runs. But to me being able to have my own room and unpacking was always so calming to me. I also would buy candles quite often for my room because I hated the smell of the cardboard boxes and I always liked my rooms to smell the same. To this day, I still burn the same rotation of candles which are a eucalyptus and spearmint, pumpkin or a fruit scent. I always burn a eucalyptus candle when I am studying for tests or when I am sick because eucalyptus and spearmint is a de-stressing agent and it always helps me focus more on my work. I always have pumpkin scents burning during the fall and winter months because fall has always been my favorite season and it is usually around the time my family finally gets completely settled into a new house. Lastly I burn fruit scents during the summer months because we always move during summer and fruit scents always make my room smell fresh and clean so when I move out the next person to live in that room would not have to smell just cardboard boxes. My rooms used to have tons of decorations and I would keep a lot of items I had gotten from family and friends to try and make my room feel more like this is where we would stay for a while and not feel like we were just temporary visitors. .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf , .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf .postImageUrl , .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf , .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf:hover , .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf:visited , .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf:active { border:0!important; } .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf:active , .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u3270d2b49d036c12abe62e546e5408bf:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Compare and contrast the treatment of war in The rank stench of those EssayAfter a while I got tired of carrying extra boxes around because sometimes they would get lost or damaged during the move or my room would be smaller than the last room and I would not have any place for all the extra boxes that would end up just floating around my room. I hated being constantly reminded by the brown cardboard boxes that sooner than later they would consume my room and I would be leaving to once again a new house. But once I got into high school I started decorating my rooms less and less. I decided to just keep a few things in my room. A bed, dresser, television, a gaming console, a desk, a chair and a few candles would be all I really needed. I started to like the view of having my room kind of empty. After a while I did not feel like I was trapped in a corner of my own room. I no longer had boxes overflowing from out of my closet filling my floors anymore. My room has always been a place I could go and know no matter what happens I would always have it, even though it was a new house I felt like it was always the same.

Are Your Ears Open Essays (1227 words) - Audiology, Cognition
Are Your Ears Open Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when youd have preferred to talk. (Deep and Sussman 76) Upon studying listening within another course, the vast and somewhat unclear subject began to become clearer. The act of listening entails in-depth processes that elude a majority of peoples knowledge. The act of listening involves four main parts: hearing, attention, understanding and remembering. Listening entails a vast amount of information that a majority of people does not know or understand. The common view on listening often does not even involve true listening. People often mistake hearing for listening. Just because you heard something does not necessarily mean that you were listening. While others do not even realize that listening is one step of a four-part process. While two people are involved in communication, the one receiving the message while listening formulates the next phase within their head. They miss a large percentage of what the person involved in speaking is saying (Tubbs and Moss 141). The reasons [for ineffective listening] are so obvious that they are sometimes overlooked. First, listening is mistakenly equated with hearing and since most of us can hear, no academic priority is given to this subject in college. Second, we perceive power in speech. We put a value on those who have the gift of gab. How often have you heard the compliment, He/she can talk to anyone? Additionally, we equate speaking with controlling both the conversation and the situat ion. The third and last reason we dont listen, is that we are in an ear of information overload. We are bombarded with the relevant and the irrelevant and it is easy to confuse them. Often it is all just so much noise (Koehler 543-544). The false perception of listening embodies the common view that people involved in communication often have. The first element in the listening process is hearing, which is the automatic physiological process of receiving aural stimuli. Sound waves are received by the ear and stimulate neurological impulses to the brain. Next we place these sounds in a meaningful order or sequence so that they may be recognized as words. Third, we recognize words in a pattern that constituted a language, which then helps to convey the message from the communicator to us (Brooks 82). Another major factor in peoples difficulty to maintain effective listening is the speakers rate. According to a study done by Blain Goss, the average speakers rate is between 100 and 150 words per minute (Goss 91). Our brain often utilizes this free time to daydream and not truly focus on the issue at hand. Unfortunately, when you stop talking, you sometimes start arguing mentally as another way maintains your viewpoint. Arguing mentally is like talking to yourself very, very quietly, just loud enough to keep you from listening to someone else. The second step the in enhancing verbal communication is to stop arguing mentally and seriously consider whats going on as it is happening moment by moment. Do not reflect, for thats old news. Do not start imagining, for thats somewhere that doesnt exist yet. Understand whats going on now-right now (Adler 16)! Attention, the next element within the listening process deals largely with the amount of concentration on a speakers words. Humans utilize selective attention during their everyday communication. Selective attention occurs when we attend to a certain amount of stimuli while filtering out others (Tubbs and Moss 143). A widely recognized study, called the cocktail party problem (Bostrom 11) deals directly with the use of selective attention during a party. The test uses a party scene where numerous conversations occur simultaneously. The researchers study how the subject attends to one conversation at a time, while tuning out all others. Another issue in determining the attention level is threshold. A threshold is the minimum level of stimulus intensity that enables us to pay attention (Moray 18). Attention thresholds vary depending on several key factors, including our motivational sate and arousal level. Arousal, or the level of alertness, plays a key role in a listener aptitude for paying close attention. Our specific state of arousal determines our threshold for paying close attention to stimuli. The third facet of the listening process is understanding. Understanding

Child labor Essays - Childrens Rights, Childhood, Human Trafficking
Child labor Essays - Childrens Rights, Childhood, Human Trafficking Child labor is a worldwide issue but particularly in developing countries. I have chosen this topic due to my interest on childrens rights. I have found it very cruel to force little children to work while childhood is a critical time for healthy human development. What is child labor? Child labour is defined as employment of children in an early age 5-17, under hazardous conditions. Not all works are defined as child labor and only it can be called Child labor when the conditions under which it is performed and the time that it takes is not suitable for child depending on their age or ability. Statistics have shown that currently Eritrea, Somalia are the top the latest list for countries where child labour is most prevalent. Throughout the research that UNICEF has done there is an estimation of 150 million children aged 5-14 in developing countries were involved in child labour in 2011. Of these children, the international labour organisation (ILO) estimates that 60% work in agriculture. Key point one: There are many forms of child labour worldwide and the main reason for its occurrence is poverty. Children are to pay off debts incurred by parents and grandparents or in many instances children are orphans and have no place to go. Therefore nowadays there are many children who are employed by child traffickers in different areas such as agricultural labor, mining, manufacturing, domestic service, types of construction, scavenging and begging on the streets. Most child laborers do not receive protection and when they get ill or injured not only their regular wage but also their cost of treatment is not received. In fact child traffickers violate childrens right by employing them with unfair wages and in some cases just providing them food. In this case childrens lack of knowledge let child traffickers to continue their crime. Key point two: impacts The impacts of Child labor is vast. As we all know the fact that all of our development such as physical, cognitive (thought/learning) and behavioral happens during our childhood therefore it is a critical time for us. In this age children need should be taken into consideration more than any other time in order for them to have a healthy and safe development. Unfortunately Child Laborers miss out on this opportunity. Many of these children work under hazardous conditions and these hazards and risks affects adults and for sure more strongly children. These risks cause last-longing injuries and lack of physical development essentially on brain development while working in a place surrounding with poisonous gases like manufactories. These children may also suffer from mental pain from working and living in an environment where they are harassed or experience violence and abuse. In addition, child labor affect childs future as their chance of education is denied and later on as adults t hey have little chance of obtaining a decent job and escaping the cycle of poverty. United nation has said that "All of the worst forms of child labor must be eradicated. Child labor not only violates human rights but also the natural foundation of a serious threat to the future social and economic development. Trade, competition and economic efficiency should not be an excuse for the violence. "(The declaration of employment and decent work / Board of Directors of the United Nations. Geneva 2007) I strongly agree with this quote. I believe that communities across the world should take this issue into earnest consideration so that the steps taken towards child labour would bring an end to this issue which has been recognised as a social problem. I feel the best way to abolish child labour is to abolish poverty as long as it is the main cause of this issue. The other way to alleviate child labour is to have stronger government intervention. Weekly progress report Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1
Weekly progress report - Coursework Example I spend Monday and Tuesday reading an article titled, Omans eGovernment progress recognised internationally, written by Ammari. S (2012). The article talks about the recent development in the context of m-government in Oman. I also read the Statistical year book developed by the Ministry of National Economy ââ¬â Oman (2007). It helped me in understanding the acceptance and feasibility of mobile technology in Oman On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, I started writing my first chapter covering the context part along with designing research aim and objectives and formulating research questions. The context of the research covers information on the importance of m-government, its applications in Oman and overall acceptance and feasibility in the present and coming years. In the coming week, I am planning to read articles on the growth and development of m-government in Oman for 2-3 days. I have read few articles published in the newspaper, Oman Observer. One of the articles titled, 4G services launched written by Harthi F.B.K (2012) states the emergence of 4G services in the country while the article titled, Improving Customer Service via Mobile Banking written by Murphy. D (2009) states the emergence of mobile banking offering multiple benefits to users and organsiations. However, the article titled, M-Government Services Initiatives in Oman, written by Naqwi and Shihi (2009) states that there are major loopholes in the m-government as the model is fairly new. I have not read much but will continue to do so in order to critically analyse the literature I have also planned to strengthen my literature reading by visiting the nearest library along with reading more articles and journals on m-government and its applications in the context of Oman in the mid week for 2-3 days I do not wish to read end numbers of journals, articles and books as the mentioned research

The Consumer Price Index and the Retail Price Index Essay
The Consumer Price Index and the Retail Price Index - Essay Example The sample of the population used in calculating consumer price index includes different wage earners but excludes those from the military and correctional institutions including jails (Mankiw 2011, 123). Retail price index is an inflationary measure that captures the change in the cost of living of certain categories of people. This index compares the percentage of money spent by the said people in buying different commodities over a certain period. It reflects the prices of certain items that are largely used on a daily basis including common household items, diesel, petrol, bus fare, rent, and electricity. These items are given weightage because they are used on almost a daily basis. Alcohol and tobacco are examples of other goods that are used in calculating retail price index but are given lesser weightage than the aforementioned items. Retail price index is calculated on a monthly and annual basis (Biggeri & Ferrari 2010, 114). Calculation of consumer price index starts by selecting a basket of goods and services which typical consumers spend their money on. The prices of these items at that particular time are determined. The cost of the selected basket of goods and services is calculated by multiplying the price of each item by its quantity in the basket and then adding these products. Consumer price index calculators then pick on a base year against which to compare prices of the selected basket of goods and services in each comparison year. The price of the fixed basket of goods and services in comparison years is divided with the price of the same basket in the base year and the quotient multiplied by a hundred to show the differences in the costs of living between those years (Diewert et al 2009, 72). The calculation of the retail price index involves choosing a base year in which the economy of a country is thought to have been stable and the year is given a hundred points. The items used by the class of people or

The 4g Wireless Networks
The 4g Wireless Networks The current system has very limited services; 4G is going to be The Technology which is going to be highly in demand. With the developing of 4G this power can be utilized to its fullest potential for various people in different walks of life. This is will help the military services of any nation to a great extent as the video clarity and data transfer speed will help the uniformed men in the war front. Likewise for the corporate this is a boon as they can have virtual offices all over the world and monitor their business by sitting in one corner of the world. And even for the personal use it is of great help to the people as it has the better quality of service, connectivity and also helps the people in all the fields. This fourth generation helps us to gather all kinds of information which is needed without any difficulty. This 4G has lots more benefits when compared to the 3G and it also provides better service to the people in a high level. Introduction: The wireless technologies evolution has many generations such as 1G, 2G which is of wireless cellular system. The wireless systems which are currently in use provide only limited services. The users of 2G and 2.5G are asking for better quality in data, multimedia and voice similar to the quality of the wired. But the data rate required for it is very high, which is also beyond the 3G capabilities. This motivated in the research of the Fourth Generation wireless network s (4G). The 4G vision unifies many mobile and the wireless networks. Anyway, there is a basic difference to the wireless cellular and the WLANs. The wireless networks in the fourth generation will have different networks and it will overlie one with the other. The mobile station which has multiple interfaces will be fully equipped which will enhance its mobility. The 4G wireless networks will have different kinds of wireless components which will provide large number of service to the users, so that the people can communicate with the help of these networks and architecture. The 4G wireless networks are very flexible and will provide wide range of technology to the users. They will not only be able to use the internet services but also will be able to use the other services like voice and some other day-to-day applications. They not only help in improving the services but also help us to obtain wide range of information and services. Requirements: The 4G is a safe and secure platform and many services can be made use of it. It gives the complete satisfaction to the users. Low Handoff: This handoff will cause the delay in the services and it will also create loss to the communication of the data. Hence this should be managed for the better communication. Access: The access is the important thing in the 4G networks as it gives connectivity to the users and it also provides the end services. Network: The network should be of multi-service so that it will not only give the basic access but also gives a wide range of services to the people who will need voice and other services. Broadband: The 4G network integrates using the high end platform and it is also cheaper and effective to use, and it can be maintained easily. Security service: For success of 4G, the important aspect is security and to make sure that the networks are safe and protected. Models: The 4G has different range of models and it can be made use as required. Optimal networks: In this, according to the agreement the optimal network for the service is selected and the connectivity is selected based on the internet network layer. Hybrid networks: The core layers will be present and the layers will have networks of different kinds which will be presented layer below layer. Heterogeneous networks: This deals with different and all kinds of networks which has one common network. When the core layer is the same it minimizes the overheads and will also improve in the performance of the network. The fourth generation wireless network comprises 4 basic layers. They are Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN), Wireless Metropolitan Area Network (WMAN), Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), and Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN). WPAN Networks WLAN Networks WMAN Networks WWAN Networks The networks of the lower levels has high bandwidth and play a small area of networking and sometimes the networks of the lower level can play the role of the networks in the higher level. The WPAN has the shortest network connectivity. It has connection only to the personal needs like; the Bluetooth can be used with it. It covers only a relatively short distance. The WLAN also covers a short area, but more than the WPAN. It covers the local area. For e.g. the use of internet in an area. The WMAN covers more than the WLAN. It provides communication between a metropolitan area. The WWAN is the wide area but it does not have a very high bandwidth. The use of cellular, GSM can be accessed with this network. Wireless Fourth Generation Architecture: Inter Technology Hybrid Unit (HU): This hybrid unit acts as a bridge between the different layers. It combines many networks to access different technologies. The hybrid units are of different types, they are: WWAN-WMAN: This node provides a link between the WWAN and the WMAN network. For the WWAN it can act as the base station and for the WMAN it acts as a subscriber station. WMAN-WLAN: For the WLAN this unit acts as an access point, and for WMAN, it is the subscriber station. WLAN-WPAN: The networks WLAN and WPAN will be interconnected using this unit. It can operate the Bluetooth the ad-hoc networks. The main components of the cellular networks are the Mobile Switching Center (MSC), Home location Register (HLR), Serving GRPS Support Mode (SGSN). Properties of 4G: Network Architecture: It has Hybrid network architecture. Driving Architecture: It has converged data and voice over IP. Switching: It has digitalized switching with packetized voice. Radio Access: MC-CDMA, OFDMA. Database: ELHR, VLR, EIR, AuC. Data rates: It has data rates of 100Mbpsc. Roaming: It has global roaming. Compatible: It is compatible to 3G. Handsets: Numerous mode voice, data streamed video with higher data rates. Applications: Internet, MMS, Multimedia, HDTV M TV Bandwidth: It has bandwidth of 100MHz Frequency Band: It has higher frequency bands of 2-8 MHz Component Design: It has smaller antennas, software multiband and wideband radios. FEC Tech: It has concatenated coding scheme. IP: All IP (IP6.0) As the wireless communication system develops the expectations and the demand among the people keeps increasing. These wireless networks work on their capacity and limits also has some crucial period. The re-configurability can be done at any level, and it will be useful for the network provider as well as the user perspective. This provides selection between the alternate networks and is based upon all the issues. The re-configurability mechanism tells not only about the physical layer but also the stacks of the entire protocol. These 4G systems will provide many features to the users and it will provide end-to-end connectivity. The accessing, roaming and the other dynamic features are very useful and everything is obtained at a minimal cost. They can also choose between the other wireless networks if required. The following figure shows about the interoperability of the 4G layers. The 4G networks usually support the global roaming and the end-to-end services in the wireless networks, and these thing usually depend upon the Quality of Service issues (QoS). The capacity and the bandwidth for the 4G should be many times more than that of the 3G to meet the business requirements. The 4G depends not only upon the speed and version but entirely for its service and the quality. The main difference between the 4G and the previous generations is that in 4G both the voice and data can be sent, but in the other generations the voice and only a small amount of data can be sent across. The 4G can be used wireless with the Digital Subscriber line (DSL). The people throughout the world would be benefited and can use for communication, as its service and quality are very good. They can even do business from one part of the world to the other as it has good speed and is reliable. The people who have not yet used the 3G can directly hop on the 4G as it is more useful and of good speed. It will be based on the network IP technology. 4G is more useful than Wi-Fi. In Wi-Fi the distance matters and it can be accessed only in the slow path. But this 4G is faster and it can be accessed from any place and it is also cost-effective. Quality of Service: The quality of service plays a very challenging role in the 4G networks. It provide a wide range of service and a better quality to the users. There are 4 types of quality of service, they are: 1. Packet- level Quality of service: This QoS refers to the packet level service which also takes care of the error rate, and the space occupied by the buffer. It has a good packet quality which is very helpful to the users. 2. Transaction level Quality of Service: This transaction level depends on the transaction time it takes to complete a service and also about the packet loss. Some of networks can accept the packet loss but the others cannot. 3. Circuit level Quality of Service: The circuit level service is about the calls which have been connected and also about the circuit level transfer and other transactions. It provides a good quality of service for the calls and services. 4. User-level Quality of Service: The user level quality depends upon the application and the other services. It also depends upon the mobility of the users which may support the quality of the network. Conclusion: 4 G is developed with the following aspects and advantages: Ità ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s speed would be 50 times high than 3G. The expected bandwidth of 4G is about 10Mbps. It has options of three-dimensional virtual reality, video and the ability to feel at the event even if you are not present physically there. We get to interact with people, products and know about the places when the cyber and real world merge. The smart card in your mobile would advice you to do what next as it will be monitoring your movements. Last but not the least 4G will provide access and support for authentication, paying off bills, security and also supports whichever has mobile specific services.
